The Geekery Market Spotlight: Loops by Liz

Welcome to The Geekery Market (formerly the Muggles Market). We are excited for our next event – just in time for all your geeky holiday shopping needs! As usual, we’ll be introducing you all to our artisans/authors/artists, sponsors, and activities for the Market every week as we get closer to the big day.

Please allow me to introduce to you one of our artisans, Loops by Liz. Loops by Liz sells wearables, decor, blankets, and much more!

Answers to our 5 Geeky Questions

Tell us about the geeky goodness you’ll be bringing to the next Geekery Market! I create crocheted clothing, accessories, toys, bags, and other items. I really enjoy trying out new ideas and stitches to create fun and unique items, and rarely do I ever make the same thing exactly the same way twice. Some of my most fun items are things like the squid and dragon egg dice / small item bags, but there’s really no end to the variety of stitched up fun I’ll be bringing along.

How did you get started doing what you do? A few months before the pandemic hit us, we had a movie marathon weekend with friends where we each made scarves to fit the theme. Soon after, one of my close friends gifted me with a bag of mill end yarn which I used to create my first shawl. After that, I was hooked, and having over a year of being cooped up with nowhere to go gave me a LOT of time to practice and hone the skill. I’ve been avidly and actively crocheting for over 3 years now, expanding my knowledge and skills. I’ve done some custom work for a few people and had a few others buy premade items I’ve made since then, but this will be my first major market experience.

What’s an item you are bringing that you are really excited about? I really have fun with dice bags. They’re a smaller project, but I really just get so much joy out of making them and hope others will love them as much as I do.

What else would you like everyone to know about your wares? I do this for fun more than anything else, which means I don’t try to reproduce the exact same thing over and again, so everything you’ll see is a true labor of love and joy. While some things may use the same basic design, very rarely are they entirely alike, whether it be changes in color or small design changes. I really have fun making each new item unique. I also *love* custom orders, so don’t be afraid to ask about having something made just for you!

What’s your favorite holiday story? The Nightmare Before Christmas has always been one of my absolute favorite movies.
