The Charlotte Geeks are pleased to announce our 2024 donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Metrolina through this year’s Geekery Market. Between cash and food donations, we were able to donate 21,651 pounds worth of food.
This food will be distributed throughout the community, including families impacted by Hurricane Helene. SHMetrolina serves a total of 24 counties, and provides food for over 950 partner agencies including soup kitchens like Urban Ministries, emergency pantries like Nourish Up, homeless shelters like Uptown Men’s Shelter and Center of Hope, senior programs, and low-income daycares. - At our February 2023 event, we collected $1,471 in cash and 1,471 pounds of food.
- At our November 2023 event, we collected $1,178 and 756 pounds of food.
- At our November 2024 event, we collected $2,922 and 1,179 pounds of food.
For each $1 donated, Second Harvest is able to distribute 7 pounds of food.
This year’s amount is the most we have collected at a single event so far, and actually exceeds our combined total for our 2023 donation. The Geekery Market has been collecting food donations for SHMetrolina since 2017, and with this year’s donation, have now donated over 52,203 pounds of food.
Of course, no matter how much we donate, the need continues on. That is why we will continue to partner with Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in 2025 to help fight hunger.
