Woody’s Beads

Many years ago I was introduced to perler beads. I thought they were the coolest thing. While I didn't make to many myself, I still found the concept very interesting. I did stop using them very soon after I started.
Flash forward about 8 or more years. I won't go into much detail, but I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder among other issues. My therapist told me to find a hobby, preferably an artistic one. I wasn't interested in drawing because I don't find it fun, and honestly I think I'm bad at it. Then I remembered the beads. I went to amazon and purchased a set of fuse beads with a decent variety of colors. I didn't touch them for a while, but I wanted to make something for a friend and that's when I first opened the box and got to work. I found the tedious and repetitive nature of placing the beads to be quite fun! Plus I enjoy colors in general and seeing the colored beads form an image after a while is so satisfying. I realized that I enjoyed making bead art, but I didn't really have many things in particular I wanted to make for myself. So that's where the idea for making a shop came to my mind, along with being in dire need of money. I figured having a shop where I can make bead art for others would be a perfect way to keep myself busy doing something I love to do, while also making a little money along the way.

What Else You Should Know About Them:

Describe all the geeky goodness you'll be bringing to the next Geekery Market! What kind of items will you be selling?

I boast some of the best fuse bead melts you'll find anywhere. I make anything from small accessories like keychains and magnets all the way up to HUGE perler bead art pieces! Oh! Also I can make literally ANYTHING out of beads!

What is something that surprised you about making / selling your wares?

I am most surprised by how much people enjoyed what I make! I had no idea people would be so interested in my art but I always get great reception from people.

What has been one of your favorite stories so far while running your business?

I've only been attending events for roughly 6 months so I don't have too many wild stories. I just recently got recognized by someone who'd never been to my booth before because they saw my stuff on social media. Made me feel famous!

What is an interesting fact about your wares / business that you want to make sure everyone knows?

I said it before but I really do have some of the best fuse bead melts out there. Plus I use mini beads, which not many bead artists use, so I have much more room for detail while keeping sizes realistic.

Looking over the list of artisans this year, what is one of the booths you are looking forward to visiting?

Reddog Crafts has some super interesting stuff! Gotta see that irl.
