As usual, we’ll be introducing you all to our artisans/authors/artists, sponsors, and activities for the Market every week as we get closer to the big day.
Please allow me to introduce to you one of our artisans, Creating with the Girls. Creating with the Girls is run by Christy Houser, a passionate quilter, runner, and mom of three. Here, you’ll find a collection of handcrafted quilts, each a labor of love and a testament to over 20 years of quilting experience.
Answers to our 5 Geeky Questions
Tell us about the geeky goodness you’ll be bringing to the next Geekery Market! I love fabric and all things fantasy. Melding my 2 loves I create a ton of quilts, wall hangings, home decor and more featuring dragons, sci fi and fantasy images. All my pieces are made to be used and loved. Each one is unique as while I may may more than 1 piece from a pattern I never duplicate the exact same colors or style.
How did you get started doing what you do?I started sewing when I was about 5. Growing up in Maine we were super self sufficient and sewed anything and everything. When I had my first daughter almost 30 years ago I started quilting and then about 5 or 6 years ago really started doing the fantasy and sci fi pieces. I still do traditional quilts for those who want but my heart lies in fantasy.
What’s an item you are bringing that you are really excited about? I have a couple dragon wall hangings that are really bring me joy right now.
What else would you like everyone to know about your wares? I create everything by hand. They are all made with 100% cotton and are designed to be used and displayed.
What’s your favorite holiday story? National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. I am not big on Holiday movies but I will always stop and watch if this comes on.

Come see us on Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 10am to 4PM at the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center – 4751 NC Highway 49 (Event Center B). The event is FREE to the public, but we are requesting a donation of canned goods or cash which goes to our charity, Second Harvest Metrolina . Please note that this location does charge for parking: $8 per car, $15 per van, $25 per bus (credit/debit only). See you there!
