Our spotlight today illuminates artisan Christine Brunson! Christine Brunson has always been fascinated by the storytelling power of comic books, so she started crafting her own. In 2012, she made her debut as co-creator, writer, and colorist for the web comic Undead Norm. In addition to her work in comics, Christine has taken part as a moderator, panelist, special guest, and exhibitor at many Carolina-area conventions and library events. When not working on comics, Christine can be found creating domino art with her son, dodging her cat’s attacks, discussing video game lore with her husband, and trying to figure out if she is the good or evil twin.

What Else You Should Know About Them:

What kind of geeky goodness will you be bringing with you to the next Geekery Market?

I will be bringing some of my comic books that I have made either by myself or with collaborators. Those include the zomedy comic "Undead Norm," the magical girl stories of "Bittersweet Sentinels," and the all-ages superhero graphic novel "Amazing Age." In addition, I will have oodles of my artwork as prints, stickers, reusable sticker notebooks, keychains, magnets, pins, and earrings, traditional art sketchcards, blank variant sketchcover comics, and various-sized papers! Can't decide? I also will have mystery lucky boxes with stickers and pins in there. My subjects include some of my original characters, food, and animals, but you can also find fan art for manga, anime, Marvel, video games, and cartoons.

What's an item you are bringing that you are really excited about?

I am really excited about bringing a brand-new all-ages graphic novel out for this event! "The Clog" should be finished and ready for me to share with everyone! This comic started as a daily prompt drawing in a tiny sketchbook for the Surface Craft Gallery exhibit in Charleston, SC back in 2016! The story follows Harold and Ida as they clean their sink and discover a hidden world below the pipes. I have been working on redrawing it for print and debut it at the show!

What was the first item you ever made? How did you learn to make it?

The first issue of "Undead Norm" was the first item that I made for the purpose of sharing my art with others. I was not comfortable with drawing comic pages yet so I asked my friend Melanie to use her SCAD Sequential Art degree to help me make it. Being a comic book fan for ages really helped me know what I wanted to create but I had to research and practice my script writing before it could be drawn. Melanie was a fantastic collaborator and taught me a lot as we made the story as a webcomic first then published it as a comic.

What else would you like everyone to know about your wares?

All of my pieces reflect my love for my different fandoms and my goofy sense of humor. I hope you enjoy these works as much as I enjoy creating them!

If you could travel anywhere in space or time, real or imagined, where would you want to go?

I would love to go to Bilbo Baggins' birthday party. I bet the food would be amazing!
