Hex and Kisses Artwork
Hey look at this - our latest Geekery Market spotlight! Today, we welcome a new artisan, Hex and Kisses Artwork!
Artist Ellie Anderson is Hex and Kisses Artwork. She says: "I’ve loved making art ever since I could hold a crayon. I enjoy expressing the veritable trove of emotions and experiences I’ve had through my artwork. It gives everyone a chance to find something that makes them smile and sparks a bit of joy. My business has a variety of wares for a variety of people. From stickers featuring puns to action-filled art prints, there’s no shortage of fun and magic in my shop!"
What Else You Should Know About Them:
Describe all the geeky goodness you'll be bringing to the next Geekery Market! What kind of items will you be selling?
For this market, I have a loads of funny stickers to place on any surface, mini paintings created onsite, assorted art prints of varying sizes, keychains and charms, hand-pressed buttons and handmade tote bags featuring pop culture icons, quotes and fandom silliness! There’s a little something for everyone!
What is something that surprised you about making / selling your wares?
One thing I never truly expected when I started selling my work was how freeing it was. People who loved the same things I did would come up and buy many items while striking up a conversation; these interactions gave me insight into what people like as well as allow me to make true connections with others in the same fandom space. It also gave me inspiration for new project ideas!
What has been one of your favorite stories so far while running your business?
A boy visited my table at a convention and he couldn’t stop gushing over the Sonic Heroes keychains I had displayed, then he and I talked for 15 minutes about the blue hedgehog’s adventures. It was so much fun to see someone from a younger generation love a character so much! He begged his father for a keychain and I threw in a free sticker too. It’s a fun story I remember every time I set up my displays.
What is an interesting fact about your wares / business that you want to make sure everyone knows?
When it comes to making my art, I make sure not to use artificial intelligence. I wholeheartedly believe that creativity comes from human experience, experimentation and emotions. Hard work and effort bring high reward and I couldn’t call myself an artist if I used a computer to take that part of creating away. My artwork is hand-drawn, hand-crafted and imagined by me, and I’ve got the sleep-deprivation to prove it!
Looking over the list of artisans this year, what is one of the booths you are looking forward to visiting?
As for the other artisans at the Geekery Market, I’m particularly excited about checking out Artsygamergirl and Epic Meltdown Candles! I really love getting to support other artists but also local/small businesses. Everything made by hand feels more personal and it makes me eager to see what other amazing creations will be around the market!
