Caricatures by Destiny West

Destiny West is a full-time elementary art teacher and lifelong artist based in Lexington, NC with her husband, son, and cats. When she's not teaching hundreds of creative kids each week or chasing a toddler, she's working in a variety of media—painting, sculpture, digital art, and more. "I love capturing personality and expression, especially through caricature! Come say hi and let me draw you!". She can draw one of a kind caricatures of you, your loved ones, or your pets! She can also add a variety of elements to the caricature to make it fully yours.

Describe all the geeky goodness you'll be bringing to the next Geekery Market! What kind of items will you be selling?

Caricatures! You can be alone, with another person, a group, your pet, just your pet, and more!

What is something that surprised you about making / selling your wares?

One of the most surprising things about doing caricatures is how many people are afraid to get one done of themselves. They fear their insecurities will be exaggerated and have a low sense of self-confidence. I find people fascinating and our imperfections are what make us unique and I love that about getting to draw so many people.

What has been one of your favorite stories so far while running your business?

I've had the privilege of being many people's first caricature experience. The way their eyes light up at seeing my drawing when I hand it over fills my heart.

What is an interesting fact about your wares / business that you want to make sure everyone knows?

I'm really willing to work with you on your preferences. While I think we should all embrace the things that make us different, I understand if you'd prefer I not include your braces or something like that. I can also include items you don't have with you. Want the 10th Doctor's sonic screw driver? We can make that happen.

Looking over the list of artisans this year, what is one of the booths you are looking forward to visiting?

I used to do pottery and ceramics before I moved to North Carolina, so I'm really interested to see what Functional Mud Pottery has available! I love a nice handmade mug to drink coffee or tea.
