Fancy a good cuppa while you’re gaming or reading? We know that geeks of all ages enjoy a good cup of tea. For that reason, Moments In Tea offers a thoughtfully curated selection of fine looseleaf teas and herbals, sourced from all over the world. Together with infusers and looseleaf filters to make your own tea bag. We also offer themed mugs for Gaming, Science Fiction, Cat Lovers, and for Writers. We distribute a Tea Dueling card game. You can often find a few tea-related books in our repertoire. Now that EJ is a published author, we’ll have his book for sale, as well; and if all goes well, his second book will be released by Geekery Market 2026, so we’ll have that, too! Tea and Gaming. Tea and Reading. What does your Moment In Tea look like?

What is something that surprised you about making / selling your wares?

All types of Tea: White Tea, Green Tea, Oolong Tea, Black Tea, Dark Tea (Pu’erh), come from one plant: Camellia Sinensis. To oversimplify a little: How the tea leaves are processed after they’re harvested results in which kind of tea it is. There are many varietals, of course. For example, some growers may decide that “this” varietal makes such a great green tea, they’ll grow it only for green tea, even though the leaves could be processed to be a black tea or an oolong tea. Just as different kinds of grapes are cultivated to be different wines. There are other beverages that we call “tea” because we steep the leaves in hot water and drink the resulting beverage; think Herbals like Chamomile or Rooibos. They are really “infusions” or the French word “tisanes”. (Can anyone help us with the correct pronunciation of “tisane”?!)

What has been one of your favorite stories so far while running your business?

Whodathunkit?!: In 2014, we were invited to be part of a Celebrity Gifting Suite the day before the Golden Globes awards in Los Angeles! We met a wide variety of performers from television and movies. Just to name a few: Claudia Christian, Edward Asner, Mark Ryan, Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, Edie McClurg, Jim Piddock, Kevin Dobson, Maree Cheatham, Savannah Jayde, Russell Pitts, Christopher Cousins, and we mustn’t forget Todd Sherry! We had a fabulous time meeting them, letting them sample our wares, and gifting them with some of our teas.

What is an interesting fact about your wares / business that you want to make sure everyone knows?

Just like Wine, Tea has terroir. There are many varietals of Camellia Sinensis, and depending on where the plant is cultivated, the growing conditions, the season, how it is harvested, and how it is processed after harvest, all contribute to nuanced taste profiles and different types of tea coming from all over the world. The same language is used for Tasting Tea as is used in Wine Tastings. Who knew?!

Looking over the list of artisans this year, what is one of the booths you are looking forward to visiting?

Really? Only one? We can think of two right off: Mossy Magician and The Golden Flamingo, vendors we just met at another event who told us they’ll be at Geekery Market! Of course, we’re eager to see publishers Space Wizard Science Fantasy (E.J.’s publisher!) and Falstaff Books. Authors A.J. Hartley and Darin Kennedy. WaywardStitches. Karou’s Resurrections.
