We are excited to announce the return of the Muggles Market, just in time for Valentine’s Day! This year’s theme is Muggles Market: Love and Plunder, combining our adoration of pirates and love. As usual, you have a wonderful opportunity to get to know our artists, writers, artisans, and entertainment through our Muggles Market Spotlights.
Jonathan Rosenbaum of majaNATION is a returning artisan with our Muggles Markets. We asked them a few questions about their life, work, and what treasures they’ll be bringing to Muggles Market: Love and Plunder.
Please tell us all about the plunder you’ll be bringing to Muggles Market.
I have 3 children’s books, 2 kids graphic novels, a “dad” joke book enamel pins, fan art prints and a bunch of quirky art.
How did you get started making your glorious plunder?
When I was 4 years old, my mom asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said either an artist or an elephant. I picked an artist and there was no turning back.
What’s an item you are bringing that you are really excited about?
I am excited about showing off my “Who’s Knot Hare?” graphic novel with Cryptids in it. I created my own cryptid, and he is on a journey to be recognized by the famous professor on his cryptid tour. As he tries to crash each destination, the audience is supposed to help when asked if we have seen any cryptids around. We say, “Knot Hare”. Our hero meets up and is joined by bigfoot, chupacabra, mothgirl, the Jersey Devil and the Loch Ness monster.
What else would you like everyone to know about your wares?
I try to show off the personality of the characters by their actions and facial expressions. Although I do fan art, I like to do it in my style so it’s more than just the characters you know.
What’s your favorite love or pirate story and why?
Stardust. It’s not just pirates, it’s sky pirates collecting lightning. I mean really how fun is that? And the captain is awesome.
