We are excited to announce the return of the Muggles Market, just in time for Valentine’s Day! This year’s theme is Muggles Market: Love and Plunder, combining our adoration of pirates and love. As usual, you have a wonderful opportunity to get to know our artists, writers, artisans, and entertainment through our Muggles Market Spotlights.
Rae Blackledge of Gamma Rae Geek is a returning artisan with our Muggles Markets. We asked them a few questions about their life, work, and what treasures they’ll be bringing to Muggles Market: Love and Plunder.
Please tell us all about the plunder you’ll be bringing to Muggles Market.
We’ll have bags and accessories for table-top roll players and dice goblins – Zippered dice bags, mimic scrunchies, lanyards and dice trays all made in TTRPG themed fabric, plus 3D printed dice towers.
How did you get started making your glorious plunder?
I’ve been sewing my whole life and went to college for theatrical design working mainly in costuming. As many of us did when life flipped upside down in 2020, I decided to make a hobby my business.
What’s an item you are bringing that you are really excited about?
I’m excited to bring my mimic scrunchies. Some, but not all, of my zippered scrunchies unzip to find a row of felt monster teeth. Is it only a scrunchie or a mimic? You’ll need to try them to know for sure.
What else would you like everyone to know about your wares?
We’re introducing a new item at the show not yet available on our website. Triangular “caltrop” dice bags. These bags are available in 3 sizes, from just big enough for a single set of dice to pretty roomy, and are shaped like a D4.
We also sell custom Christmas stockings in the same fabrics as our dice bags, including embroidery on the cuffs. We won’t have them with us, but make them year-round to help those who wish to avoid the holiday rush.
What’s your favorite love or pirate story and why?
A story of fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles… The Princess Bride
