About “Salvage Rat”…
Star Force pilot and hero Wyatt McCoy left his medals and career behind after the Rim Wars, disillusioned and bitter when he learns the truths behind the conflict. He takes his converted gunship, the Nellie B, and heads to the Near Fringe, salvaging derelict ships and abandoned stations and mining colonies. Dr. Beth Parker is a space archeologist, documenting the history of planetary expansion and colonization for Kalok Enterprises and the Interplanetary Mining Guild. A piece of alien technology embeds itself in Beth’s arm, giving her the ability to see the energy impressions of long ago people and events. When Beth uncovers proof of genocide that could bring down the big mining companies, she’s the target of assassins. Wyatt makes a split-second decision to intervene, launching them both into a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game with some of the most powerful organizations in the system. They can prove Kalok and Interplan killed millions—but can they live long enough to tell their story?
5 Questions with . . . Larry
- When did you first realize you were interested in becoming an author? What drives you to write?
I first started writing when I was in college, and did it as an extension of playing D&D – giving campaign background to players and creating the backstory. Living with a full-time writer kept it on my radar. After spending so much time editing and proof-reading, I had my own stories to tell. If I don’t get them out they nag me and distract me from getting anything else done. - How would you describe your style or genre of writing to a potential fan?
In general I like action and adventure in a setting you can picture and feel. I don’t like grim-dark or cruelty, so readers should expect happy endings and the good guys winning. I also tend to put some snark or humor in whenever I can. - What are you currently working on? What are you working on next?
Currently, I am formulating the second book in the Salvage Rat series. The first releases September 19 from Worldbuilder Press. Next is a co-author project with Gail on another Falstaff universe tie-in to John Hartness’s Quincy Harker series. - What existing book do you wish you had written and why?
There isn’t one. I usually take existing books more as inspiration on what elements I liked that I could incorporate in a unique or different way. That story has already been told but what was left on the table? - What is one piece of advice you would give to a budding writer?
Put your hands on the keyboard and write or if you like retro, pen to paper. Join a local writer’s group and build a network of supporters to keep you moving forward.
