
It’s almost October and there are a ton of returning shows on TV and a few new ones I know many of you will want to watch, all leading up to the Geekiest night of the year. Here are the highlights and suggestions to make sure you get your fill of creepy, scary, silly, gory, and all the marvelous stuff in between.
Turner Classic Movies is the place for getting your classic horror movie fix. Friday nights are where you will find some of the best horror classics available The Village of the Damned, House of Dark Shadows, The Fall of the House of Usher, and many more. It all leads up to a two day marathon starting on October 30 with back to back classics. For more details check out their full schedule.
New Shows and Specials
October 4 – Halloween Wars (Food Network 9:00 PM): Geeky Gourmets and Gourmands, this seasonal special is back with all new teams and challenges. Watch as expert pumpkin carvers, cake decorators, and sugar sculptors create decadent treats as if by magic.
October 7 – American Horror Story: Hotel (FX 10:00 PM): Who hasn’t heard that Lady Gaga is joining the already impressive cast in the fifth season of what has become a thriving cult hit. AHS: Hotel promises to be gorier and scarier, but it also promises to tie together past seasons clearing up some unanswered questions. Here is the First Look Trailer for the show:

October 10 – The Last Kingdom (BBC America 10:00 PM): History buffs can look forward to this fictionalized history about the birth of England, based on the Bernard Cornwell series, The Saxon Stories.

October 18 – Robot Chicken DC Comics Special III (Adult Swim – Midnight): The insanity is back with many of the previous guests actors throwing their voices into the mix. DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation has given their blessing to the weird, wild, and sometimes just plain wrong world of Robot Chicken.
October 26 – Supergirl (CBS 8:30) (Normally will air Mondays at 8 starting 11/2): Can CBS pull off a superhero show as well as the CW. That is one of the many questions on the minds of comic book fans who are eagerly awaiting this show. The trailers look promising.

October 30 – Danny Elfman’s Music From the Films of Tim Burton (PBS 9:00 PM) Many geeks have been delighted for over 20 years in the magical collaboration between these two men. Enjoy an evening at the Kennedy Center as the best songs from their time together are played before a sold out crowd, quite a few of whom came dressed for the evening quirky entertainment.

October 31 – Ash Vs. Evil Dead (Starz (:00 PM): This! This is the reason to subscribe to Starz. Bruce Campbell brings back one of the most beloved monster killers of all time, and he brings his boomstick and chainsaw with him. This series promises and hopefully delivers the camp and gore that the original movies did.

October 31 – The Returned (Sundance 10:00 PM): Though its inferior U.S. remake was canceled after just one season, the French original (aka Les Revenants) returns for a second season, with the action picking up about six months after the season 1 finale. See how French Zombies compare to the American ones. If you missed it the first time around you can see it in Netflix.
