Update: Unfortunately, Scrambled Pegs will no longer be attending this year’s Muggles’ Market. We hope to catch them again later!
Welcome to another Muggles Market Spotlight for 2017! Today, we are delighted to announce the addition of new artisan Scrambled Pegs to our second annual Muggles’ Market at this year’s Geek Gala. Kimmy Fiorentino took a few minutes to answer some questions about her business and general geekery.
- What kinds of items will you be selling at this year’s Muggles Market?
I will be selling custom painted peg dolls of (hopefully) any character you can think of! - How did you first get started making these things?
I bought some peg doll bases at the craft store in 2012 to make tiny Sherlock and Watson as a gift for my friend. I put them on Tumblr, and lots of people liked them. Someone suggested I try selling them on Etsy, so I did and now here I am! - What has been one of your favorite projects to work on?
Very early on in my peg doll making, John Green’s assistant Danica ordered some custom dolls to put on the set of Mental Floss. You can see them in the background of their videos! Since I was just starting out and had literally ONE listing on Etsy, she offered me some tips and helped me form my business into something a little more professional. We’re still good friends! I also really like making wedding cake toppers. I’ve made them for a few weddings I’ve attended, and it’s the coolest thing to see your work featured as such an important part of the event.
- What else can you tell us about yourself?
I’m a huge theater nerd. I’m primarily an actor, but I also love doing scenic painting and makeup. I’ve given peg dolls to the casts of Hamilton and also A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. Jefferson Mays even told me he would take his peg doll onstage with him that night.
- So this year’s Geek Gala pays homage to Godzilla movies – if you were to create a Godzilla movie today – what type of nemesis do you think he should fight against?
I feel like it would be really cool for Godzilla to fight against Ant Man. Seeing something so huge fight against something so tiny would be awesome!

And make plans to come visit them on Saturday, October 21st at this year’s Geek Gala</a
