Muggles Market Spotlight: Mr. Wonder’s Magical Emporium

Welcome to another Muggles Market Spotlight for 2017! Today, we are delighted to announce the addition of new artisan Mr. Wonder’s Magical Emporium to our second annual Muggles’ Market at this year’s Geek Gala. David McCurry took a few minutes to answer some questions about his business and general geekery.

  • What kinds of items will you be selling at this year’s Muggles Market?
I will be selling wood burning articles, from plaques to wooden boxes. I make wands, staves, rune, and other magical items. I also make folding tables with hand burned and painted tops.
  • How did you first get started making these things?
I had always been interested in making items. A friend introduced me to the art of vending at fairs and such.
  • What has been one of your favorite projects to work on?
My favorite project to work on was a Black Mage plaque from Final Fantasy 1.
  • What else can you tell us about yourself?
I served in the army for 4 years, and left with a medical discharge. Wood burning is something I can do that doesn’t make my condition worse. It occupies my time and keeps me sane.
  • So this year’s Geek Gala pays homage to Godzilla movies – if you were to create a Godzilla movie today – what type of nemesis do you think he should fight against?
The Godzilla thing – I’m not actually sure. I’m not really up on the Godzilla franchise.
  • And make plans to come visit them on Saturday, October 21st at this year’s Geek Gala
