Muggles Market Spotlight: MADDJewels

Welcome to another Muggles Market Spotlight for 2017! Today, we are delighted to announce the addition of new artisan MADDJewels to our second annual Muggles Market at this year’s Geek Gala. Lee Hill and Jessica Cannon took a few minutes to answer some questions about their business and general geekery.

  • What kinds of items will you be selling at this year’s Muggles Market?
We sell handmade jewelry . We make boho style jewelry with materials from around the world, such as olive wood from Israel and sari silk from India. We also use a large assortment of semi precious stones. We specialize in one of a kind, hand wired trees of Life. We hammer metal and work with leather as well.
  • How did you first get started making these things?
MADDJewels is Mother and Daughter Designs. We both went through a major change in life at the same time. Like mother, like daughter… We are both super crafty. What better way to spend time with your best friend than to come together and create? What started as something to take up time and have fun morphed into a full blown business partnership that is now 5 years strong. However, it was literally built over a lifetime. Recently, my oldest son just joined us with his leather creations – so it’s a family affair!
  • What has been one of your favorite projects to work on?
Since everything we make is a one of a kind creation, I’d have to say our favorite creation has been the company itself. Watching it come together from hobby to company, and watching us coming into our own individual talents as one cohesive company has been amazing.
  • What else can you tell us about yourself?
We are a Mother Daughter duo with hippie souls and boho style. We are two crazy ladies who have totally GONE MADD. The best people are, right? For the Muggles Market, MADDJewels will be transforming into the Magical MADDary. Come by and GO MADD!
  • So this year’s Geek Gala pays homage to Godzilla movies – if you were to create a Godzilla movie today – what type of nemesis do you think he should fight against?
A hippo, because hippos are known to take out animals like alligators. So imagine a hippo with jaws the size of a small skyscraper. (I actually don’t know much about Godzilla myself, so I asked my youngest soon who is a proud geek and this was his answer. Pretty good huh?)

And make plans to come visit them on Saturday, October 21st at this year’s Geek Gala
