Muggles Market Spotlight: J Radford

Welcome to another Muggles Market Spotlight for 2018! Today, we are delighted to announce the return of J Radford to our third annual Muggles Market at this year’s Geek Gala. Jackie Radford took a few minutes to answer some questions about her business and general geekery.

  • What items are you bringing to the Muggles Market this year?
I’m so excited to be bringing not only my leather journals back to the Muggles Market this year, but also some new stuff! I’ve been working on some funky journals with lots of different papers in them.

  • What was one of your favorite things from the Muggles Market or Geek Gala last year?
I have two favorite things from last year. First is the people. What a lovely crowd! I enjoyed meeting so many amazing people. My second favorite was getting to hold the big snake!

  • Who is someone that has been inspirational for you or mentored you in your craft?
The person who most informed my work is an artist I was so fortunate to study under. Her name is Caroline Coolidge Brown. She fostered my love of play and experimentation in my work. I would constantly ask her, “Should I add this? Should I change that?”. She would always say, “Try it and see what happens”. So, I tried stuff and many times it worked and sometimes it didn’t. She fostered my sense of bravery and willingness to try.

  • So this year’s Geek Gala theme is “Gears and Ghouls”, and focuses on steampunk and day of the dead cosplay. If you could have one body part cybernetically enhanced or replaced, what would you choose, how would you want it changed, and why?
Microscope Eyes! I want eyes that I can dial into microscope mode so I can see all the amazing tiny things in the world.
  • And make plans to come visit them on Saturday, November 3 at this year’s Geek Gala
