Muggles Market Spotlight: Gallery 27

Welcome to the Muggles Market Spotlight for 2018! Today, we are delighted to announce the addition of new artisan Galley 27 to our third annual Muggles Market at this year’s Geek Gala. Stacey Pilkington-Smith took a few minutes to answer some questions about the business and general geekery.

  • What kinds of items will you be selling at this year’s Muggles Market?
Gallery 27 will have three artists representing us this year! Stacey Pilkington-Smith will have Kawaii Doodle fandom prints. Modern Makery will have sewn goods such as bowties, wristlets, and blankets. Grumpy Skittles will have crocheted plushies, art prints, and buttons. We will have something for everyone!
  • How did you first get started making these things?
Grumpy Skittles – I began crocheting at the age of 6 years old, and fell in love with the craft. I love to create my own one of a kind creatures and original versions of my favorite characters.

Modern Makery- I’m a geek at heart! I’ve been sewing for most of my life and began making character items for my friends and family. I now sell at local comic cons, and I’m thrilled to be a part of the 2018 Muggles Market!

Stacey- I’ve always been an artist. I’ve been working as an artist professionally for eight years now.

  • What has been one of your favorite projects to work on?
Grumpy Skittles – I love coming up with new characters and making them my own.

Modern Makery – I’ve been really inspired lately by the wide variety of Pop culture fabrics. There is such a wonderful variety, definitely something for everyone!

    Stacey – My Greenman series.

  • What else can you tell us about yourself?
Gallery 27 is an art gallery and gift shop located in Lincolnton, NC. We are excited to have three artists representing the Gallery’s love of Pop Culture! The three of us met through art classes at the Gallery and bonded over our love of Pop Culture: Stacey Pilkington-Smith Artist, Modern Makery- sewn goods, and Grumpy Skittles – Artist and Crocheted goods.

  • So this year’s Geek Gala theme is “Gears and Ghouls” and focuses on steampunk and day of the dead cosplay. If you could have one body part cybernetically enhanced or replaced, what would you choose, how would you want it changed, and why?
Stacey – My Brain! I’d want a photographic memory and a chip to allow me to use my entire brain.

Grumpy Skittles – Def Hands, I would take any enhancement that would increase my crocheting speed!

Modernmakery – An extra set of arms and hands would be quite useful!

And make plans to come visit them on Saturday, November 3 at this year’s Geek Gala
