Welcome to the Muggles Market Spotlight for 2018! Today, we are delighted to announce the addition of new artisan Fire Flyz Slime Shop to our third annual Muggles Market at this year’s Geek Gala. Angelene Jans took a few minutes to answer some questions about her business and general geekery.
- What kinds of items will you be selling at this year’s Muggles Market?
Here at FireFlyz Slime Shop, we strive in making quality slimes of various texture, scents, and colors with quality ingredients. As we like to say, our motto is ‘slimes for one, slimes for all!’ - How did you first get started making these things?
I first got into making slime by watching Youtube videos of slime ASMR (Autonomous sensory meridian response). It was very relaxing for me to watch, especially right before bed where they would make me fall asleep. One day while at the store I decided to grab the ingredients to make my own slimes. I have been hooked since then. My husband’s coworkers even asked me to make them some of their own slimes to keep at the office for stress relief. They are actually the ones that gave me the idea of opening my own Etsy Slime Shop.At the end of September 2017 I opened CreationsByAngelene Slime Shop on Etsy. The business has grown since then and we have changed our company name to FireFlyzSlimeShop. We attend various cons in the NC area, and now this year we will be adding Muggles Market (which we are so excited to attend btw!) to the growing list of events. I have a presence on Instagram and a following, I go live at night sometimes to show some of my new slimes, or to just catch up with my followers. - What has been one of your favorite projects to work on?
Hmmm, I am frequently asked this question by my Instagram followers. I can honestly say all of them are my favorites. While I’m sitting at the computer working on my Etsy shop or working on a new logo, you will find me playing with a butter slime. A butter slime is a type of slime that is made with a basic slime base and special Japanese clay called Daiso. It is a smoother and thicker slime, and not as sticky as your average slime. - What else can you tell us about yourself?
Well, I am an adult Simmer. I am a mother of 2 beautiful kids (that you will occasionally see videos of them playing with my slimes on Instagram). I love EVERYTHING Star Wars, yet I’m still a Disney girl at heart (well guess that’s the same thing since Star Wars is owned by Disney now lol!) My Favorite comic book is Thor, but I am literally never rooting for Thor I am always rooting for Loki. Anything else you want to know you’ll have to catch up with me at my table at the event. - So this year’s Geek Gala theme is “Gears and Ghouls”, and focuses on steampunk and day of the dead cosplay. If you could have one body part cybernetically enhanced or replaced, what would you choose, how would you want it changed, and why?
I would have to say my right shoulder. Why my shoulder? Well because it can help me make more slime in a faster amount of time! I had a car accident a year ago, and my shoulder has never been the same since. It’s a challenge in a day to day basis not just with slime but picking up my kids, work, and even doing basic things like putting on a shirt. Plus being helpful, how cool would that look to have my shoulder become cybernetically enhanced and the rest of my arm still be a human part, with actual nerves, tendons, joints, and blood flow!
