Muggles Market Spotlight: FairyNerdy

Welcome to another Muggles Market Spotlight for 2018! Today, we are delighted to announce the return of FairyNerdy (aka Designed by Laura) to our third annual Muggles Market at this year’s Geek Gala. Laura Stinson took a few minutes to answer some questions about her business and general geekery.

  • What items are you bringing to the Muggles Market this year?
I’ll be bringing lots of polymer clay and fantasy-themed goodies this year! Some of my most popular items last year were my handsculpted dragon and owl ornaments, so I’ll definitely have more of those available. I love making them because no two are ever the same. I also have some new illustrations I’m working on that I hope will be just as popular!

  • What was one of your favorite things from the Muggles Market or Geek Gala last year?
One of my favorite things is always seeing all the people who share my passion for Harry Potter, Doctor Who, or Firefly. It’s the only place where I can encounter so many like-minded fans at one time, and I LOVE it!

  • What is something on your ‘bucket list’ you would like to do or try?
I’ve wanted a tattoo for as long as I can remember, I just have a hard time deciding on a design. And on my especially nerdy bucket list: Meeting Nathan Fillion.

  • Who is someone that has been inspirational for you or mentored you in your craft?
There is no one person. My family has always been very supportive of my creativity, from the time I was small. And I have to shout out to my friends who buy from me without asking for discounts, without expecting freebies, who value my work and my talents. Those are the people who have kept me going.

  • So this year’s Geek Gala theme is “Gears and Ghouls”, and focuses on steampunk and day of the dead cosplay. If you could have one body part cybernetically enhanced or replaced, what would you choose, how would you want it changed, and why?
It would be so helpful to have at least one of my eyes enhanced so that I can look at something and get a digital readout of specs and info. Or, you know, in case I forget someone’s name.
  • And make plans to come visit them on Saturday, November 3 at this year’s Geek Gala
