Welcome to another Muggles Market Spotlight for 2017! Today, we are delighted to announce the addition of new artisan Emily Kramer Designs to our second annual Muggles’ Market at this year’s Geek Gala. Emily Kramer took a few minutes to answer some questions about her business and general geekery.
My love for capes started when I was 9, and I made all the garments and costumes for our childhood backyard plays. I was basically the dork running around bumping into things because I constantly wore an oversized bonnet from Little House On the Prairie. My first visit to a Renaissance Festival ramped up my love for costumes and capes, and I’ve been a costumer in that era ever since.
My favorite projects are the fantastical photo shoots I get to be involved in. Most recently, the ones I get to do with the Alchemy in Imagery group. We collaborate to create photo art that makes (for me) every piece a joy like Christmas morning. My favorite project with them so far has been the winter warrior one – where we just agreed we’d get together and shoot the first snowfall of the year. So, with almost no notice, I threw every wintry Game of Thrones-esque garment I’ve ever made into the truck, stopped to pick up the model, and drove to the Mooresville in the snow. It was cold, but exhilarating, and so much fun to make it all happen. It was magical!
In addition to costuming, I’m also a fashion designer. I’ve won some awards for it, which you can see on my website or Facebook.
My home is run by two cats – Oliver and Velvet, who like to supervise the new puppy – Huckleberry. If I’m not working on something, I’m probably hiding out in my hammock in the backyard, gardening, or watching a movie.
Godzilla needs to fight something unexpected.
So, I think Godzilla fighting Lilliputians could work, or even T-rexes. Like, I love the idea of Velociraptors VS Godzilla. I’d watch that.
If Godzilla were to appear here in the South, the mosquitoes would definitely do him in before we could call 911.

And make plans to come visit them on Saturday, October 21st at this year’s Geek Gala.
