Muggles Market Spotlight: E.B. Spider

Pika Pouch

Welcome to Muggles Market Spotlight! (Yes, you are right! It is still not Monday. The next one will be on Monday, I promise.) Today, we are spotlighting one of the artisans scheduled to appear at our brand new Muggles’ Market at this year’s Geek Gala.  Today’s featured artisan is E.B. Spider! Brandy Shope took a few minutes to answer some questions about her business and general geekery.

  • What kind of items will you be selling at this year’s Muggles Market?
I will be selling crocheted accessories from all sorts of genres. From Harry Potter, to Pokemon, to Mario, to other movies & games; I dabble in a little bit of everything. Bags and hats are my main passion, with a few baby items throw in as well.
  • How did you first get started making these things?
It all began with a mushroom purse I did about 10 years ago. I made one and wasn’t happy with it, so I made it bigger and thought “Hey, what if I put eyes on it like in Mario?” I did just that and have been making “nerdy” things ever since! Soon after, I added Luna Lovegood’s Radish Purse. This year I branched out into doing Pokemon pouches.
  • What has been one of your favorite projects to work on?
With the addition of Pokemon Go related items this year, I have had a plethora of inspiration! I love making my Pika Pouches. You should see when I make them in bulk. I have a whole Pika-Army lined up on my couch. Pokemon items are so much fun to make because they’re so unique and there are so many options to choose from.
  • What else can you tell us about yourself?

I am blessed to be a stay at home mom. I have a 4 month old son and 9 year old daughter. I am a hardcore Disney geek. I love Mickey Mouse and love to go visit him in Florida. My favorite video game is Kingdom Hearts, but any Zelda is a close second.

  • So this year’s Geek Gala is about space travel – if you could join any TV/Movie space crew – who would it be and why?
I am going to have to pick Star Wars, and not just because it’s Disney now. My daughter is a huge Star Wars nut and has roped me into it. I would love to be able to wield a lightsaber, without having to make the sound effects with my mouth. (You know you’ve done that too.) A cape with be cool too, but I don’t think I’d choose the Dark Side just to get one. Plus, who wouldn’t want their very own BB8?

And make plans to come visit them on Saturday, October 22nd at this year’s Geek Gala!
