Muggles Market Spotlight: Carolyn’s Geek Boutique

Welcome to another Muggles Market Spotlight for 2017! Today, we are delighted to announce the addition of new artisan Carolyn’s Geek Boutique to our second annual Muggles’ Market at this year’s Geek Gala. Carolyn Poynter took a few minutes to answer some questions about her business and general geekery.

  • What kinds of items will you be selling at this year’s Muggles Market?
I make handmade baby bibs, burp cloths, cup cozies, unpaper towels, wash cloths, key chains, full size hooded bath towels. I also do custom embroidered shirts and towels.
  • How did you first get started making these things?
It all started with my aunt sending my cute handmade bibs for my son, and wanting more geeky items for him.
  • What has been one of your favorite projects to work on?
I love custom orders. My favorite order has been a custom Baby Cthulhu Costume.
  • What else can you tell us about yourself?
I’m a work at home Mom with an amazing 2.5 year old to keep me on my toes. I have a great business partner. Without him I wouldn’t be able to do all the things I do, and make so many great products. He really helps keep me on track. I’m so glad I could turn my love of sewing and all things Geek/Fandom into a career. My favorite Fandoms right now are Star Wars and Doctor Who. I grew up going to San Diego Comic Con. That’s where I fell in love with wandering through the Exhibitors halls and Artist alley to find so many great handmade items.
  • So this year’s Geek Gala pays homage to Godzilla movies – if you were to create a Godzilla movie today – what type of nemesis do you think he should fight against?
I like the classics, so I would say I’d like to see a rebirth of King Kong vs. Godzilla. The portrayal and CGI of of Kong in Kong: Skull Island really lends it self to what could be an epic showdown.
  • And make plans to come visit them on Saturday, October 21st at this year’s Geek Gala
