Welcome to another Muggles Market Spotlight for 2017! Today, we are delighted to announce the return of BarzWorks to our second annual Muggles’ Market at this year’s Geek Gala. Joshua Steinke took a few minutes to answer some questions about his business and general geekery.
- What was one of your favorite parts of last year’s Muggles Market?
I really enjoyed the variety of people that I had a chance to meet last year. The amount of foot traffic into the marketplace was more than I had hoped for.
- What types of items do you plan to bring this year?
I am going to focus on more seam rippers as they were really popular last year. I plan on some more themed writing pens and more colorful bottle stoppers as well.
- Are you bringing any new kinds of things that we might not have seen last year?
Yes! I will have a variety of new items that you didn’t see last year. I have some Hogwarts themed House pens that will play a significant role on my table. Each pen sold will be a point in favor of that house. May the best house win!
- What else can you tell us about yourself?
I enjoy keeping busy in my shop. I love making things by hand, and having something special to show for at the end of several hours worth of work. I recently started playing around with leather, and hopefully by October I will have some nice pen cases to accompany my handmade pens. When not in my shop, my wife and I are usually out travelling, taking pictures, and finding new adventures to get into.
- So this year’s Geek Gala pays homage to Godzilla movies – if you were to create a Godzilla movie today – what type of nemesis do you think he should fight against?
A new Godzilla nemesis should really reflect the more modern issues of our current society. Perhaps it would be enough that Godzilla is stomping around town because no one is buying his latest software offering; GodzillApp (for finding the closest, most available Kaiju. Swipe your tail right for love!), unable to get a decent latte, constantly trying to update his Tumblr and unable to get anyone to give him their WiFi password. Frightening stuff!
