Muggles Market Spotlight: A Rose By Any Other Name

Welcome to the Muggles Market Spotlight for 2018! Today, we are delighted to announce the addition of new artisan A Rose By Any Other Name to our third annual Muggles Market at this year’s Geek Gala. Jessica Simons took a few minutes to answer some questions about her business and general geekery.

  • What kinds of items will you be selling at this year’s Muggles Market?
I make various paper art from recycled book pages. I will be making a large number of items from recycled Harry Potter book pages, as well as other geeky items for you all to enjoy!

  • How did you first get started making these things?
I first got started basically after enjoying making items for friends and family, and decided to make them for the rest of you as well. Most of my ideas start out as decorations for a friend’s wedding or a gift for a family member.

  • What has been one of your favorite projects to work on?
I love going to thrift stores and yard sales and getting ideas for new projects. I also love making custom items and hearing all about how they will be used for my customer’s event!

  • What else can you tell us about yourself?
I am a die hard Harry Potter fan, who grew up devouring the books and waiting anxiously for the release of the next one. Sometimes it can be sad to cut up one of my favorite books, but I always try to find worn out used copies that need a second life.

  • So this year’s Geek Gala theme is “Gears and Ghouls”, and focuses on steampunk and day of the dead cosplay. If you could have one body part cybernetically enhanced or replaced, what would you choose, how would you want it changed, and why?
I would totally have two extra super-cyber arms, so that I could do all the things I want to do at once. Stir the pot on the stove, pet my cat, and make art all at the same time!

And make plans to come visit them on Saturday, November 3 at this year’s Geek Gala
