Welcome to another Geek Gala Entertainment Spotlight for 2018! Today, we are delighted to introduce you to a wonderful group, The Extraordinary Contraptions, as part of the entertainment at our tenth annual Geek Gala! Prof. Dimitri von Stadberg and Miss Sephora Bostwick {on behalf of The Extraordinary Contraptions) took a few minutes to answer some questions about their music and general geekery.
About The Extraordinary Contraptions!
Atlanta’s own Extraordinary Contraptions are known the world over as the seminal rockers of steampunk. The brainchild of a quartet of nimble-fingered rock and roll geeks interested in epic storytelling, eleven years of development sees the Contraptions releasing En Absynthia, their most ambitious studio album to date. They draw creativity from the mundane, the magical, and everywhere in between to spin yarns of scientific romance, dimension-hopping fantasy, and alternate timeline escapism. Best known for their explosive live performances full of tight vocal harmony and instrumental finesse, The EC’s will have you tapping your toe as you wonder how on earth they just pulled that off.
They are:
Prof. Dimitri von Stadberg, bass/vocals
Miss Sephora Bostwick, keys/vocals
Aelus Kristof von Stadberg, Guitar, vocals
Teodore Birchard, drums/percussion/vocals
They are releasing their fourth studio album, En Absynthia, tomorrow, Friday 9/28/18!

- How would you describe your musical or performance style to someone who has never heard you before?
We bill ourselves as trans-dimensional rock. We’re a rock quartet (Bass, Drums, Guitar, Keys, vocals) that loves to create anachronistic sounds by combining influences and musical ideas from various dimensions and time periods. One song could be hard rock, the next a bossa nova, a third an aggressive waltz. Throw in virtuosic licks, soaring vocal harmonies, and some playful, brassy lyrics and you’ve got The Contraptions!

-
- What is your most recent project, either currently in progress or recently completed?
We’re releasing our 4th studio album, En Absynthia, on Friday 9/28/18 and we’re very excited to share it!

- If you could form a super group with two other performers, bands, or musicians (real or fictional) throughout time and space, who would it be and why?
Dimitri: Speaking for myself, I’d have to say the 1913 Colonne Orchestra, famous for performing the world premiere of Igor Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, which literally caused the audience to riot; and Queen, whose justification should be self-evident.

- So this year’s Geek Gala theme is “Gears and Ghouls”, and focuses on steampunk and day of the dead cosplay. If you could have one body part cybernetically enhanced or replaced, what would you choose, how would you want it changed, and why?
EXTRA FINGERS! EXTRA LIMBS! PLAY EVERY NOTE ON EVERY INSTRUMENT AT ONCE! - Where can we listen to your work and buy your music and/or other products?
Our music is available on all major streaming services including Amazon, iTunes, Youtube, Spotify, etc. But the best ways to get ahold of our music is to either download it from Bandcamp or purchase cd’s from our Website.
