Gaston College Seeks Students for STEM Scholarships

Are you, or some other Geek you know, considering a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major? We recently learned of an amazing scholarship program right here in our area that is actively seeking students to give a high-quality education at little to no cost. (I know, this sounds like an infomercial – but it’s actually true!)  Here’s the kicker – they actually need more people to apply!

Gaston College has been awarded over $600,000 from the National Science Foundation and a private donor to give scholarships to academically talented, full -time Associate of Science students who plan to graduate with an AS degree from Gaston College before transferring to a 4-year institution.

The SPARC3  Scholars Program offers students a chance to do real-world research in a variety of areas such as genetics, water quality, and searching for new antibiotics.  Interested applicants can receive this scholarship even if they are already receiving financial aid.

So far, every student who has graduated from the SPARC3   program has been accepted into the program of their choice at universities across NC.   Two students who graduated have each received a $300,000 national scholarship to finish their bachelor’s degree and go on to graduate school. This major scholarship is only awarded to 50 students annually and Gaston has had two students win it back-to-back years!

Interested?  You can email  [email protected] or you can find out more about it online at their website by clicking here.

The early decision application due date is April 21 for Fall 2017 admission into the program, but the program will continue to accept applications until all of their spots are filled.

Editor’s Note:
Please let us know if you apply and get accepted – we’d love to congratulate you!
