Calling all Geeky Elves!

The United Family Services Holiday Store needs your help!

The Holiday Store is annual event that enables families living in the UFS Shelter for Battered Women and other Victim Services clients to “shop” for their families for the holidays.  All gifts are free of charge thanks to the generous donations of community partners.  Once they’re done shopping, clients are treated to a holiday party complete with food, activities, and visits with Santa.

This is a wonderful and heartwarming event, but, as you can imagine, it takes a lot of work to pull off!  Clients show up to shop on Saturday morning.  On the preceeding Friday, hundreds of volunteers and staff pitch in to “build” the Holiday Store.

This year, due to some scheduling confusion, we may not have as many volunteers as we need to get the store set up on Friday, December 16th.  But you can help!  If you are available, we need volunteers from 3:30-5:30 and 5:30-7:30 that evening.  Tasks will involve light to moderate lifting and may involve going up and down stairs and bleachers.

If you are available to help, please send an email to [email protected] and let me know when you’ll be there and how many people you’ll be bringing with you.  I know that with our powers combined, we can get the store built in record time and have a lot of fun in the process.

Additional information about the Holiday Store is available here, including a list of needed donations.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks so much, folks, and geeky holidays to all! 🙂
