- What’s A Geek Gala?
For us, a Geek Gala is a big party with fun stuff to do and see, good (free!) food to eat, and lots of entertainment. This is not some stuffy, formal affair with chamber music and scones. It’s your chance to party like a Geek star. - Do I have be a Geek to go to the Geek Gala?
Absolutely not. The Geek Gala is open to the public. The more the merrier, so say we all! Just realize you’ll be on Geek territory, so be careful who you call Four-Eyes! - Do I Have To Wear A Costume?
No, you do not have to wear a costume to the Geek Gala. Costumes are definitely welcome, and we will have a costume contest over the course of the night. (If you want to just come as you are, tell folks you’re a Muggle!) - Is This A Family Friendly Event?
Our rating for this event is PG-13, and we suggest that attendees be 16+. If you choose to bring your children, we won’t turn them away. But we won’t be responsible for what they may see, hear, taste, touch, or say as a result. - What about Parking?
The Charlotte Marriott Executive Park has free parking for attendees. - Is There A Special Discount for Rooms?
The Charlotte Marriott Executive Park has generously offered all our attendees a special room rate. This is a great option if you want to check in early as well as if you want to drink irresponsibly and just crash until the foamy beer residue wears off (see #7). - Will There Be Beer?
In the immortal words of Buffy: “Beer foamy.” And yes, there will be beer and wine sold at the Geek Gala. This is a cash bar run by the hotel. Plan accordingly (and drink responsibly). - What’s A Prom Photo?
Remember Prom? When you came in and got your picture taken right at the start? Ok, we are geeks, maybe you didn’t go. Everyone gets a photo taken, and if you like the picture you can buy it directly from the photographer. We’ll also be using the pics for the costume contest judging as well as for posterity’s sake. - Can I Just Go To The Geeks Got Talent! Contest?
The Gala is from 7 PM to Midnight, but we realize some people may arrive late or have to leave early. If you would just like to attend the talent contest, you should try to arrive by 8:45 PM, as the contest starts at 9:00 PM and will last for about an hour. Standard admission rates for the Geek Gala still apply. - Are You Making Money Off this Event?
The Geek Gala is a charity event, with all net proceeds going directly to our chosen charity. This event is run by volunteers, many of whom pitched in their own money, talents and possessions to make it possible. It’s rumored that some have even donated their souls, but I can neither confirm nor deny that. Learn more.
